Onion Girls Unite!

Dear ladies,
Let me begin by saying congratulations! You've finally found the blog that will help you get rid of your oniony vagina. Whether or not you've been afflicted for a few days or a few years, you're over it, and you need solutions. I know you've been searching through endless health forums, googling and googling, blown away that there are so many women exactly like you, but no one has come up with the damn cure, already. Sure, you've read the "wear cotton panties," "take a shower twice a day," "Don't eat onions" (B.S.) solutions, but they don't work. It really is incredible. This is a major problem. It effects your self-esteem, causes you anxiety, and effects your relationships (if you're even bold enough to get into one).

I suffered with onion-vadge for about a decade. It was a constant drag, and the wackiest thing about it was that it would be at its most pungent, most gross, and most embarrassing when I was aroused. You know, exactly the moment when you want to smell like french onion soup. I tried everything from cutting out onions to quitting smoking, quitting coffee, eating nothing but fruits and vegetables, taking B12, taking all kinds of things… Trying yoga, trying meditation, drinking nothing but water, changing my soaps, changing my sheets every night, douching with coconut water… you name it. I even tried the damn cotton panties, but none of these things worked. In fact, all of these things were just as useless and time-wasting as asking my doctors.

Over the last decade, I must have seen 15 - 20 or so different gynecologists and doctors, and every single one looked at me like a deer in headlights. I thought surely at least 1 doctor would know a treatment, or even just a cause... but nope! When you look online, (as I know you have) you find hundreds, if not thousands, of poor girls just like yourself, begging and pleading for an answer and our doctors have never heard of it. Or if they have, let me guess… it's no big deal, right? They've told you something along the lines of "It's just your scent, it's natural, it can't be that bad, you're not sick so don't worry about it," and other such disconcerting nonsense. I believe the reason for this is 2 fold. We go to gynecologists who only know about infections, but this condition is rarely caused by an infection - it seems to mostly be caused by vitamin imbalances, hormone issues, overgrowths of specific skin bacteria and diet. But I also think there just isn't enough care about a condition like this by doctors. Feminine odor is something that western medicine doesn't concern itself with, unless it can be treated with medication - which in most cases, isn't at all the correct way to treat this issue. So we ladies have to pull up our boots and find the treatments ourselves.

To know how to treat a condition effectively, you'd generally have to know your cause first, but this can be a bit tricky because it appears there are many causes. If you're at a loss for your specific cause, no worries. Simply start with the most healthy, easy solutions in my solutions page, and if they work, you're all good! For me, taking a supplement called "Chloroxegen" has worked wonders. It's simply chlorophyl, which is a healthy supplement to take anyway. Maybe for you, it may be adjusting your diet, changing your soaps, or even wearing gloves when you cut onions - many ladies swear that touching onions causes this issue for them. Who knew!? If those solutions don't work, try any of the other solutions I've found that didn't work for me, but worked for other ladies.

And for those of you who also have oniony boobs (a symptom that appears to go hand in hand with onion vadge for many ladies) you may find a lot of the info on this site helpful as well. And for those of you who suffer from chronic UTIs (something that also seems to go hand in hand), I've got a natural treatment and preventative care regimen for that too.

Now, you might be asking yourself, why would some chick make a site about onion vaginas? Why didn't she just find out what worked and then just walk off into the sunset? Well, I'll tell you...

This site has been visited over 500,000 times in the last 4 years by women all over the world. That's over 500,000 girls who have potentially done the same thing I did - looked for help, and were told "there's no help to be found, and by the way, get over it," perhaps by multiple doctors a piece. Some of my doctors actually showed some compassion, but pretty much all of them acted like there was simply nothing that could be done. So, I've decided to take this opportunity to say, despite what literally about a million doctors between us would say - that actually, yes, you can treat this! I know you can, because I've done it, and it completely changed my little life.

Ultimately, I want to find a treatment that works for every girl. Maybe it's something stronger than chlorophyll, maybe it's a soap, maybe it's a mix of a number of vitamins... whatever it is, I want to find it because no woman should have to suffer from this condition. If you've found a solution that worked for you, LET ME KNOW down in the comments at the bottom of this page, and if something I've written helped you, and you want to contribute to my continued efforts to find a treatment that works for every girl, a donation would be greatly appreciated.

Godess-speed, my dear.

  1. Too funny...I appreciate your sense of humor about this terrible issue. Thanks for keeping it light. :) So...I am plagued with the dreaded onion vadge, and I am going to try some/possibly all of the supplements you've mentioned, depending on progress. My question to you is - along with the lovely onion scent, did you ever notice an onion TASTE anywhere? I have detected the smell and taste of onions on my boyfriend's breath after performing oral sex on me, and more recently and equally mortifying, after he was having some fun in the breast area. WTF is going on! Maybe I am alone with this taste symptom, but it's awful and I've researched it without finding much information except that a few other women experience it, as well.

Additionally, it's an after taste...it doesn't hit until maybe 20 seconds after coming in contact with my lube when I'm aroused. Anyway, I'm super glad I found your site and it has given me some hope, so I will give those vitamins a whirl. Thank you in advance for any input you may have!

    1. Oh, sweetheart, you are NOT alone! I had exactly the same problem. The bacteria that sits on your skin goes nuts for the fatty secretions that your apocrine glands produce when you're aroused, nervous, or excited. That delightful onion scent (and taste) is the product of the bacteria breaking it down. It can take a few seconds for that bacteria to multiply and break down those secretions, which would explain why it takes about 20 seconds for it to become noticeable (and then very noticeable). You also have those apocrine glands in your breasts as well, so it makes sense that you'd notice the issue in both locations.

If you try the supplements, give them a few days to kick in. It took about 3 or 4 before I noticed the smell had gone away, and I have to take them every day or it comes back. I also noticed a pretty big difference when I started eating kale and chard salads every day, but every girl is different it seems. I really hope the info on this site is helpful to you! Best of luck.

    2. Ohhh apocrine glands, how I loathe you! Wow, this makes so much sense. At least I know where it is coming from now...

Can I ask you a million more questions really quick? lol.

      1. How do you think these supplements work to solve the problem? Is it changing the secretion itself, the bacteria on our skin, pH levels? (Since we may not have the scientific reasoning behind this, I will settle for your personal speculation, haha. Any thoughts on this?)

      2. Have you tried to eliminate any of the supplements one at a time to see which one may be primarily doing the trick?

      3. When you've stopped supplements and the smell comes back, how long-ish does it take before you've notice it returns? I'm wondering if it buys any time in between or if I should panic on any given day that I forget to take them, as it may mean instantaneous doom.

      4. Do you have any thoughts on this issue being hormone related, candida related, or possibly due to a diet that is too acidic, thus affecting our overall body pH? I'm looking for possible correlation to something...I have wondered if it's due to the fact that I was on birth control for so long (almost ten years, now off for six), or possibly the over-prescribing of antibiotics for everything under the sun while I was growing up. Is the idea behind the oil of oregano to kill candida?

      5. Did you only take the BV capsules, or did you ever try the inserts as well? Do you have to take them regularly to prevent BV from returning, like...it's pretty much going to be a life long commitment to fight BV? And, were you ever diagnosed with having BV, or you just tried the capsules for the hell of it to see if it calmed things down?

I still am confused as to why my actual lubrication would taste this way, unless there are apocrine glands INSIDE the vagina. Could it be that the lube is just mixing around with the secretions on the skin? So frustrating...how don't ANY doctors have any idea about this? (That last one is rhetorical, but seriously...kind of infuriating to be told "it's just your natural scent/taste"...not cool.)

Maaan, I just wrote way more than I planned to. I feel like you are my beacon of hope and an actual live person on the internet to help gain some insight on this! Hahah. Anyhoo, I've started taking 50 mg of zinc a day (hopefully that's not too much, but I already had an unopened bottle so I thought I'd try that first). I believe my folate levels are okay as I just had them tested to check for a vitamin B deficiency, so I will hold off on the folic acid right now. I've been tested for BV a few times (my doctor must think I am insane/a complete and utter hypochondriac), and all tests come back negative but I am skeptical because of my consistently thick, white discharge (no typical BV scent, but lotion consistency - another great freakshow during sex, sigh) and because of this damn onion thing. But apparently I'm "healthy" down there, by the "good doctor's" standards. I'm wondering if I should try the BV capsules anyway, just for the hell of it (are these a form of pro-biotics? I couldn't find the ingredients listed). Now I just need to invest in some good acidophilus and oil of oregano.

I wonder if the chard and kale is helping due to the beneficial effects of chlorophyll (another product I've tried for this onion issue is drinking Chlorofresh liquid chlorophyll - results were inconclusive -___- ).

Like how I said I wrote too much earlier, and yet I'm still writing? That's fun. Okay, I'll stop here. Even if you can't address all of these questions, hopefully they will help someone else who may read this in evaluating their symptoms and plan of attack.

Thank you again for this blog!!!

    3. p.s. - I just realized that half of my speculations are listed in the other parts of your blog. Please overlook any redundancy. :)

      Delete
    4. No worries about the redundancy, honey. I'm happy to help! OK, I'll start from the top :)

      1. When it comes to each of the supplements that I take, to tell you the truth, I don't know exactly how they're effecting the problem directly, I had only researched supplements that helped with body odor (zinc and folic acid), that were anti-bacterial (VH Essentials and Oil of Oregano), and full of probiotics (Lactobacillius Acidophilus). When I first started researching the issue, and apocrine glands came up, I just searched and searched until I found more information about them, and how to treat odor in relation to them.

      2. I haven't tried to eliminate them one by one… I know that each of them are good for certain aspects of my heath, aside from the odor. If I had to guess, I'm going to say the zinc and folic acid probably have the most direct effect on the onion odor from what I had researched, but the acidophilus and VH Essentials treat other odor causing yeast, that also cause infections. From monitoring my own body's patterns, I noticed odor was much worse if I was on the precipice of an infection, so I have a feeling they all may be working together. The Oil of Oregano is just also magnificent at eliminating unhelpful bacteria and is also anti-fungal, so it surely cannot hurt.

      3. If I don't take the supplements, the smell returns in about 1-2 days. But I also noticed that the longer I take them, without missing a day, the longer the smell would take to return if I had forgotten. It makes me believe that perhaps they were building up in my system.

      4. Oh yeah… in my lists of "causes," you listed a whole slew of things that I've come along. I too have been on birth control for a long time, I had been heavily treated with antibiotics when I was young, my hormones are all over the place, and I'm fairly certain I have higher than average levels of candida --- I honestly believe this right here is the reason why no doctor has any idea what's going on. There are so many variables when it comes to body odor (from what I researched), and doctors only know their specialty. A gynecologist may understand how yeast and bacteria effect the body, but they may not understand how hormonal treatments, over time, cause body odor for some people, and not others. It's not their expertise. Not to mention, you're absolutely right that, for all we know, it might be our diet. We may be more acidic, or more basic. We may be eating 1 specific food that causes the problem, or a few - and it might be different for 2 different women. And, for all we know, it could be something we eat, in conjunction with the fact that we've once been over treated with antibiotics. There are just so many variables, from what I've researched.

    5. 5. I only tried the BV capsules, not inserts. I do have a pretty consistent issue with BV, so I take them as a preventative measure. Now, mind you, I have only once tested positive for BV. I would have a slight, but constant burning and that thick delightful discharge you mentioned, and noticed the BV capsules totally stopped that from happening. It's all self-speculation, but I can only assume my BV was very slight - slight enough to not show up in tests all the time, but just there enough to cause irritation and odor.

And basically, the reason why the onion smell would flavor your lady lube (and not be coming from inside your vagina) is simply because all that onion bacteria is living on your skin already, not inside your body. They're hanging out, odorless, until they get that apocrine gland sweat, and eat the fatty proteins for lunch. That sweat mixes with your lady lube, and before you know it, they've spread everywhere. The smell is actually not the bacteria itself, it's them eating and digesting the proteins in your apocrine sweat, and expelling that onion odor - the odor is their waste (lovely, I know). Sweat reaches the surface of your skin, which feeds the bacteria waiting on that surface, ready to chow down, and stink up the place. The issue is the sweat inevitably mixing with your own lube, and giving that external bacteria a delightful environment to thrive.

I totally understand your desire to ask questions, and connect with someone about this. It's all I wanted to do for years and years, so I really hope this is helpful. I'm no doctor, and I have no idea why we have this problem, and others don't… I just hope to try to collect enough information to help as many girls as I can, so if you try the supplements, and they don't work, please let me know. My goal is not just to share my positive experience with finding a treatment, but work toward helping girls who haven't found their solution yet.

      Good luck, hon!

    6. Hey, I just recently read an article talking about how we are moving into a scary post-antibiotic world, similar to the scary pre-antibiotic world in which a small cut on the knee could lead to death by untreatable infection. Sorry to alarm anyone, but all this talk about apocrine glands and bacterial waste and "some have it but others don't and I don't know why" got me thinking about how just like bad bacteria can mutate into antiobiotic-resistant strains, so can good bacteria (read: apocrine flora). It seems reasonable to assume that some people will have strains of this odor-producing flora that have become stronger through mutations, including mutations that make them less susceptible to other competing bacteria that would otherwise keep their numbers (and, therefore, their smelly excretions) in check. It is known that hormones do effect the microbial balance of the body and, if you check out the article I am referring to, you will see that when one bacteria strain becomes resistant to something, other strains sharing the environment can also become resistant, since bacteria have the creepy ability to swap genetic material across species! Anyway, hope this idea opens up new paths to unterstanding the issue.

Here is the link to the article, if you're interested:

    7. I would add balance activ suppositorys (15 on amazon.com) to the list of bv help after flagyl tablets. Glad to know I wasn't the only one with the onion taste. I also wash down there with a neutralizing ph balancing shampoo like "isoplus" (1.32 at walmart). I keep everything bare (no hair) with "magic shave" depliatory.(a 2.00 at family dollar) It like nair but easier to apply in the back. You must use a neutralizing shampoo like the isoplus after the nair or magic shave to stop hair removal process and prevent burning your skin. If you get rashes from nair this should stop it. I loved the chlorophyll tip. thank you so much ! now I'm not smelly on natural deodorants even when I sweat.

  2. This site is awesome! I think every woman should see this. I would say I don't have a huge issue; except in the creases of my thighs and pits. I'm overweight and it can get a little tricky, especially in the area of my c-section scar b/c it pulls the skin deep in between my belly and crotch area; my boobs, but not in a while as I've been having problems with boobie yeast infections (very itchy rash - that spreads!) so the area is getting a lot of attention(another joy no one talks about :)

I've experienced the onion sex- not sexy. I've kept that low by making sure I've showered before. I used to be on bc for a year and just recently got off, I know i have high sugar and candida, but no yeast or BV infections. I agree with eating more greens and "liquid greens" (love it), fiber and pro biotics. Pro biotics actually breaks down the sugar-eating yeast by making the cell walls explode, preventing it from spreading. When you first start treating excess candida, it will seem like its getting worse, but actually the yeast freaks out and overpopulates then dies. And pro biotics do the same to bad bacteria. Don't eat yogurt to get these pro biotics though, the sugar in them counteracts the good properties and there isn't enough probiotics to do what you need anyways(yeast feeds off sugar ;)

I take Renew Life, my sister used to work there and they are the best; they have a whole line of targeted probiotics.

    Other things I do:

I have found using wet toilet wipes instead of dry tp. it's like a mini wash every time you go, which keeps those glands from building up. Then I'll take another one and wipe down my upper thigh/crotch crease areas and baby powder.

I don't wear the same trousers/pants two or more days in a row. Even if you just lay around the house, if you have this problem, it only makes it worse. Same goes for bra. Buy enough for a week or between loads.

Take a shower at night, so your oils and glands aren't stinking up your bed.

On really bad days (which coincides with my ovulation), I will even wear a pad so the sweat and onion smell doesn't bleed through my cloths.

Don't use a wash cloth in the shower. It harbors bacteria, and the onion bacteria and never truly gets clean.

Don't use harsh cleansers or scrubs b/c the more irritated the area, the more active it becomes, like pimples.

I think of it as preventing re-infection same as if BV or yeast which is so easy to get re-infected.

Also, I almost forgot! The man. You know it, he gets the onion smell too down there and his apocrine glands like to rub on your apocrine glands; so I make my husband take a shower (mostly) before we get intimate.

  3. Okay, boo. I have tried all of the vitamins/supplements listed...onion taste and smell is still there, on my breasts, vagina, armpits, and clear lube when aroused. I have been researching everything I can think of, and one possible tip is that I believe I have cytolytic vaginosis, which is basically an overgrowth of lactobacilli, leading to a highly acidic vagina. I am wondering if this can be at all related to the onion issue. However, if it is, that doesn't much explain the onion factor on my nipples. Also, oddly enough, I just began an intense workout routine and had the SAME TASTE in the back of my throat while working out. What GIVES?! I seriously feel like I'm going crazy. Maybe I'm plagued with candida...maybe my body needs to detox the onions/garlic out of my body that I've ever eaten in my life. Maybe I need digestive/systemic enzymes to help with this body odor/taste. I have even considered hormones, of which have been tested and are seemingly normal, however after years on the pill, I am trying out a progesterone cream on the off chance that I am estrogen dominant, and on the positive side of progesterone being the happy hormone that you can't really go wrong with. Perhaps the odor, or sweating for that matter, is hormonal? I am in my late twenties and have dealt with this issue for my entire adult life. I'm pretty much over it.

Is it possible for the bacterial breakdown of sweat to smell like onions, even if no onions have been eaten? I'm pretty sure I've had this problem even when I abstained from any foods in that veggie family. I'm mystified...no idea where to go next. I am going to attempt to sweat and detox as much as possible with this 2 month work out program, and see where it leads me. Oh - and I've started using baking soda suppositories in my vagina twice a week to create a more alkaline state in hopes of killing off the abundance of lactobacilli. I have also read that no yogurt or probiotics should be taken while trying to beat this...it's quite interesting and requires an entirely different treatment protocol from a BV or yeast episode.

You are so lucky that chlorophyll is working for you! What brand are you using? I believe I used to get Chlorofresh, and I also tried GNC's capsules. No noticeable difference, except my poo was looking very Irish.

I am even supplementing with a ton of magnesium to try to alkalinize my body. Mreh. Seriously am running out of solutions.

Do you have any recommendations for a good candida cleanse, or how to alter the secretions from our apocrine glands?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Goodness, sister, it sounds like you've tried just about everything! I'm so sorry to hear that the smell hasn't cleared up yet!

After all the supplements I took, the Chlorophyll has really helped, so I now only take that. I drink Chlorofresh in the morning, and take a pill called Chloroxygen at night. It seems to work better than the supplements... and yes, poos are rather Irish. I would maybe give it another try, and take it both at night and in the morning, rather than just once a day. I have also tried everything from the Master Cleanse (massively alkalizing) to major work out sessions, to giving up all kinds of veggies (onions obviously) and nothing has helped like the Chlorophyl.

If that doesn't help (and I am loathe to type what I'm about to type) I would take a trip to the doctor, and see what they have to say, if you haven't already. I wouldn't ask a Gynecologist (they have no idea how to treat things like this), I would ask your GP. And if they give you a blank stare, I would seriously consider visiting a homeopathic or Chinese Medicine practitioner. Lord knows I've dealt with so many western doctors that just dismiss what they don't understand... and if they can't treat it with a drug, they just make you feel like it's all in your head, or doesn't matter. So that's why I hate telling you to got to the doctor... but you never know. You may find the one that cares, and if you find what I found (a bunch of jerks) then going the homeopathic/chinese medicine route is a very good one, although it can be expensive.

In terms of candida, the only way to really treat that is by changing your diet completely to the caveman (paleolithic) diet. Candida cleanses never work - they always come back. I've taking "candida cleanse" supplements, and I never noticed a change. I know for sure that I have a higher than usual amount of Candida because when I simply cut sugar, dairy and bread out of my diet for a short while, my body broke out in horrible bacterial infections (a situation referred to as "die off" when candida fights for dear life as it's dying off). But before you try going caveman (it's a really difficult diet to follow) check with your doctor. And honestly, if your doctor isn't helpful, get a second or third or fourth opinion if you have to. My issue was mainly localized to my vadge...I didn't have it in my breasts, so my doctors just shrugged it off as my "scent," (jerks) but for you, it sounds like it's an all-over issue, and a doctor has to take that seriously.

The last thing I can think to suggest is taking another look at my page that lists other solutions, and just follow down the list. I've added more solutions that I've researched in the last few months. There are a number of new products worth researching that I found for treating these issues: http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/more-solutions_30.html

It makes me so sad to hear that you're running in the same circles I did for years. I know it's such a helpless feeling. I really, truly wish the best for you, sweetheart. Keep trying. Don't get discouraged. Don't give up. I'm sending all my love your way.

    Good luck, honey!

  5. THANK YOU!!! I am so glad I found you. I was starting to grow very self conscious about myself and thought that there was something grossly wrong with me. I noticed the onion smell on a partners breath about 4 years ago after intimacy with my boobs and also my vagina. At first I thought it was just sweat however, the smell would reoccur EVERYTIME I was intimate even after I was fresh out the shower it would still appear about 20 seconds later. CURSED ONION SMELL! It makes sense about the aprocine glands and how they are located on the armpits, nipples and on the vagina, I am just confused as to why everyone doesn't have this problem if we all have these glands. Anyhow I just ordered chlorophyll capsules from GNC that are 60mg and plan to take them with a multivitamin. Did the chlorophyll take that onion smell and aftertaste from your partners breath? When did you notice it worked? I really hope it works for me. Thanks for your help

    1. Hello sweetheart!
Sorry to hear that you, like so many other ladies and myself, have a case of the onions. It took me so long to get control of it. I no longer have an onion smell, but at certain times of the month (probably when I ovulating) - for some reason - even when I take the chlorophyl, I have a bit of the smell, and I can taste it on my partner's breath. That's when I know I have to give my vadge a Certian Dri shmere the night before, and keep it up for a few nights to keep it at bay. Cartain Dri closes your pores so you can't sweat. Works wonders. I'll also take a number of supplements that I have listed on my solutions page, along with the Chlorophyl.
There are so many different reasons why it occurs for different girls. I have a list of different causes I've come across on my page: http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/the-causes.html. I hope it's helpful!
Try the Chlorophyl, and if it doesn't work right away, give it a few days. It can sometimes take about 3 days for it to begin to work. Take it at night and in the morning. You may also try using Certain Dri on your breasts at night - try it for 3 days (like the chlorophyl, it takes about 3 days to start working), and then use it every other day going forward... These things worked for me, but again, every girl is different, they may not work for you. Definitely check out my other page for even more solutions:
      http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/more-solutions_30.html
Again, there are so many causes, and the right solution is getting down to your cause. You may have BV, a bladder infection, a genetic inability to break down certain enzymes.. all kinds of nonsense causes this, so make sure not to get discouraged if one thing doesn't work. Just keep going and narrowing down. There are a lot of solutions out there... its just a matter of finding the right one.
      Best of luck, lady!

    1. You're welcome, sweetheart! If you're not too happy about the taste of Chlorophyll, I find the pills work just as well, although I have to take double the recommended dose (1 pill at night and 1 in the morning, as apposed to just once a day). The brand I used is Chlorofresh. If the Chlorophyll doesn't start to work after the 3 days... keep going! I find that it actually starts working better and better over time. I also take it with my Acidophilus, BV supplements, and a few others to ensure everything is happy down there. I also use Certain Dri on my boobs at night. I only have to apply it once every 3 days (after doing it every night for 3-4 nights). You can also apply it in the morning, but it will rub off on your bra a bit. If the Chlorophyll doesn't work for you, PLEASE don't get discouraged! I put lots of other solutions in my other solutions page: http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/more-solutions_30.html. I hope everything works out for you, lady!!!

    3. thank you once again. iv gotten used to the taste more now and i actually think it may be working. but somethings just dawned on me, will i have to take this all my life lol. will my body finally give up and give it to be normal. or is that something yet to be discovered. :)

      Delete
    4. Yeah, that's the rub. The Chlorophyll is only a treatment. I personally have no idea what the cause is for my issue, but I do know that it can be something genetic that isn't treatable. It could just be the way our bodies (don't) break down metabolic byproducts in the foods we eat - Not the kind of thing you can cure. But that's why I really like the pills... I can just have one in the morning when I wake up, and one at bed, and take them with me in my bag just in case I'm out. Hopefully, one day, someone in the medical industry will take this kind of thing seriously, and some information will become available about how to treat it more effectively. But till then, I'm a Chlorophyll girl. I really hope it works for you! And just incase it works, but not 100% of the time, take a look at the other solutions on this site... sometimes I combine a few. Like sometimes, I find an apple cider vinegar bath really helps when I'm ovulating, and the Chlorophyll isn't getting the whole job done. Just a tip. Maybe another solution will help for you!
      Best of luck, sweetheart!

    5. I've been dealing w this onion smell vag for a few years now. I only get it once or twice a year & its frustrating. Back & forth 2 countless Gynos & Gyno Specialists. My Gynos told me it was bv ...which Id treat only 2 get a yeast infection rite after, treat that & still have the onion smell. They sent me 2 countless specialists which all their tests they did were negative & sent me home with "its just normal in every woman". Now I've been clear of this smell for a year...yay! BUT, the other day I ate a whole fried yellow onion (I don't eat onions because I believe they give me that smell down there) and as I was eating it I thought 2 myself..."I'll probably get that smell down there". Well dang if I wasn't right! Ive had it for 5 days now. Some people say what u eat has nothing 2 do w it but seriously, I'm not so sure. Anyone's thoughts on this? Im tired of going 2 the Dr for them 2 say..."its just (me)".....

    6. Oh yes! There are a lot of women who swear that eating onions causes their vadges to emit the delightful odor... I have it listed in the "causes" section of this site. Some women even say that simply touching onion gives them the odor as well - I've read this a number of times on a number of blogs. I can't say why, but it's certainly something I've come across - perhaps you have a sight case f BV, and eating onions has something to do with making the odor extra pungent, and unfortunately for you, it sounds like your doctors are just as frick'n clueless as mine and pumped you full of Metronidazole - causing you to have a yeast infection. Something worth a try: if, like me, you do have mild cases of BV (not enough to cause an infection, but enough to cause odor after eating onions) try VH Essentials BV capsules. You can get them at any Wallgreens or common drug store... and if that doesn't work, take a look at my "More Solutions" page and see if anything helps. I hope something does, lady :)

  8. Douche with Hydrogen Peroxide (safe for external and internal use--will kill off bad bacteria) and occasionally wash down there with warm water mixed with Tea Tree Oil (you can even soak a tampon with the oil and leave it in there for at least an hour). I recommend that for cleaning from the outside and the Liquid Chorophyll to aid from the inside.

  9. chlorophyll does nothing for me besides make me feel sick for 30seconds after forcing it down lol.
my body is so frustrating... my nip and vag have a weird after taste but no original smell. i dont really want to talk to a doctor about it cause i dont want them to just think i dont wash or something and that theres no real problem (cause i do). this cant be normal. changing my diet didnt even work. im going to try a overdose on chlorophyll and see how it goes then ill try certain dri on my nips... hope they dont fall off :)

  10. I have a question...do all of us ladies happen to have amalgam (silver) fillings in our teeth? I am just recently considering the possibility of this toxin affecting our chemistry somehow...if that's even possible. So I, for one, DO have fillings. Could correlation be causation?

Additionally, I get this taste in my mouth when I am having sex, but have not even had contact with any glandular areas/sweat/my partner's lips, etc. I know it is theorized that you can taste what is going on your vagina, as people who have tried curing yeast infections with a clove of garlic inserted have also been able to simultaneously TASTE the garlic in their mouth. Weird, right? So, when I am aroused and this "flavor" is developing in my vadge, I can apparently also taste it now. Wonderful. -_- WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello sweetheart! Unfortunately, no... I myself don't have silver fillings and have had a case of the onions for over 15 years. After all the research I've done (and I've been scouring the Internet for at least a decade) I can see no commonality between women with this issue. I too have had the onion taste in my mouth at random times, for no apparent reason. It's the damnedest thing. Usually first thing in the morning, even after I've brushed my teeth. Since, over the years, I have done everything from altering my diet in every which way, removing this that and the other, using myself as an uber onion guinea pig - I truly think, for me, it's a genetic issue. It may not be for everyone, but it sure seems that way for me. Thank you so much for trying to find a commonality, though! In fact, you just inspired me to create a page to let girls help each other do just that! It may be genetic for me, but for lots of girls, it may not be! Stay tuned...

    2. Thank you so much for your response. Okay, so this is going to be trickier than I thought, haha. MAN! Just trying to rack my brain for everything.

What about the possibility of urea being a factor? We excrete this when we sweat...maybe it plays a roll? Give it a google and let me know whatchya think!

I swear, whoever could come up with a cure for this would be a millionaire.

      Delete
    3. Hey hon! Sorry for the delayed response... I have come across some sites that mention urea building up in the kidneys can cause odor, but I just haven't read a lot on the subject. I can only speak from personal experience that I've done some kidney cleanses in the past, and didn't notice a change in the odor... but that's just me... sadly, I don't know much more on the subject :( If you find any more info, please do let me know!

  13. Oh my goodness!!! you are a Godsend!! You have no idea how grateful I am of finding this blog. I honestely just had lost hope! I am tired of reading about an onion-free diet and cotton panties.. THAT DOESN'T DO THE TRICK!! I'm sorry that all of you ladies are facing the same situation, but I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only one who has this horrible horrible problem. So I'm starting the liquid chlorophyll thing tonight (thankfully, a homeopatic Dr prescribed it to my mom so I have a full bottle at home). Some time ago, I used Certain dri on my armpits because of the same problem and it worked really well for the first weeks; then it stopped its magic :(. One thing that I read on one of those healthforums is the use of TendSkin (you mention it on your list of solutions). Let me tell you it works!! at lest for me.. I apply a small amount on my armpits and my vag (externally and a SMALL amount because it burns!) and I'm odor free for 2 days. But, on days that I'm really stressed at work, it doesn't work as much.. But, hey, it's better than nothing! It has a weird smell like vinagrette dressing, but it goes away after a few minutes.. I've also tried RePHresh (you also mention it on the list of solutions) which helped a little but I wanted to find something "more natural" than the Tenskin and RePHresh and thanks to you I did!! Hopefully it works for me as well as it did for you!!! Once again, thank you so sooo much for sharing this information with us and giving us a glimpse of hope!

    1. Aww! Thank you for your sweet, and informative comment, lady! And it's good to know that Tend Skin works for underarms... I'm usually not too oniony after I started taking the Chlorophyll, but I definitely still have an issue there from time to time. I'll try it out. I really hope the Chlorophyll works for you! And the good news is that you can find some great Chlorophyll at Whole foods or any vitamin shop once you run out of the bottle that you have. It's very easy to find, and not expensive at all. Take it in the morning and at night if it doesn't work with just taking once a day - and be sure to take it for 3-5 days before giving up if it doesn't seem to be working. I didn't notice a difference until I had been taking it for about 3 or 4 days. And if it doesn't work, don't get discouraged. There are so many other options on the solutions page, and they're all worth a try.
      Best of luck, sweetheart!

    2. Hi ladies. I just feel that i should make a comment about those "no sweat" products some of you use bc they can be dangerous.
The reason that we sweat is because our bodies release toxins that way and when you use products like that, even regular deodorant/antiperspirants, they are closing up your pores and trapping the toxins in your body. A breast cancer study was done in 2013 on men who use specifically, antiperspirant deodorants (they make deodorants that are not antiperspirants, like Tom's for example, which is what i use. its all natural no none of the extra chemicals other deodorants use) and they found that of all the men who had breast cancer, which we know is rarer, they all formed the cancer on the side of the breast area that was closest to the armpit. They believe antiperspirants could be the reason bc they dont let you release the toxins.
I know that some women have a strong odor and sometimes using an antiperspirant is a must but maybe with all these new solutions to our onion problem, you wont have to use antiperspirants anymore :)

PS. The correlation between aintiperpirant and the male breast cancer freaked me out enough to not want to use them anymore =0

  14. What do you ladies think of this? It was even on the show "The Doctors" and apparently it's FDA approved. I've never douched, because I know it can upset the pH balance of your lady bits, but this claims water and stainless steel are key. I'm still sketched out by this, because water has a pH of 7 and the jay is supposed to remain considerably more acidic than that, so it seems this COULD still upset the flora. Anyway...ever hear of the steel "soap bars" they sell at Bed Bath and Beyond to remove onion and garlic from your hands? These people propose the same theory will work on the vagina. I'm not really sure what to think, and I'm actually a little offended that this website markets their product as EVERYONE'S answer, aka, EVERY VAGINA SMELLS BAD. Rude. We are allowed to have a scent and this product promotes the typical vagina shaming that most "odor free" products push, and that blows. That being said, since we here DO have a bit of an oniony problem, could this help? I guess it depends on if your odor is internal or external. Hmm... http://waterworkshealth.com/ourscience/index.php

    1. In-ter-esting! Gosh... it's a fascinating concept, although it makes me wonder... the odors from onions, for example, aren't caused by bacteria. They're just the natural odors of an onion - stainless steel removes those odors from hands because it combats the sulfuric compounds of onion and garlic juices. Female oniony vaginal odors, however, can be caused by bacteria digesting the fatty secretions our apocrine glands release (totally different than an onion), but from what I've seen, this condition has other causes too. Perhaps this product can help those for whom bacteria isn't the issue. For some, it's the foods they eat, and even an illness that they have. Perhaps this can be very helpful for some girls. Thank you so much, again, for contributing!! I'm going to add this to the list of possible solutions on my solutions page :)

  15. Thank you So much it is just a relief to know that you arent cleaning properly or have some kinda infection. I have had this smell for years and my then boyfriend now husband hates onions. We have a standing joke that if i find a man who loves onions i am going home with him, so he makes it a point to ask any of his new friends in front of me if they like onions. I also love oral sex but only get lucky on my birthday and maybe our anniversaries. Also i have noticed that the smell does not come from my vaginal canal buy the sides of my inner lips. My husband always knows if i masturbated before he came to bed he call it the onion force field. We have fun with it because i too have gotten the its just your natural smell from the doctors so we decided to just make the best of it. So i am extremly excited to try the chlorophyll and i am going to try the BV pills just because it sounds like the right thing to do to keep down there healthy. So your site is getting bookmarked i am buying Natures Way Chlorofresh and Replenish Pro B biotic on amazon and i will let you know my results in lets say a month. 16. I know this is a ladies site but I was hunting for a cure for my wife. She has the same problem. Down there , her breast and her breath. I know she takes all kinds of vitiams. and she uses the oregano oil under her tounge . for her bad breath. I mean its bad, I have never said anything to her about it because I didn't want to hurt feelings. We have been married for 25 years. She allways ask why I don't want to kiss or go down on her, I just don't have the heart to tell her that she stinks. I really really don't like onions. whit all that said I never knew it was on the skin. I thought it was her inside juices. now for something I did once, I had a bump under my arm pit once and it popped and it smelled really bad. even after the bump had healed the smell stayed. so I did some research on skin bacteria and found a cure. after a shower spray the area with hydrogen peroxide let it set for a few minutes rinse and repeat after the second spray sets a few minutes rinse and spray with alcohol ,let it set for a few minutes then rinse it off. after a few days it must have killed the bacteria because the smell was gone. And ill tell you I don't even use deodorant never have, I cant stand that sticky stuff under my arm.
I know that it is different spraying things down there , I just thought I would tell my story it might help someone with other problems. by the way thanks for the info on this site.

    1. Hello sir, and welcome! Although this is a site for women, ALL are welcome here :)
I'll definitely look into the hydrogen peroxide! I wonder if it can be applied somehow without upsetting our so-on-and-so-forths... but in regards to your lady; here is some interesting information: you mentioned that her breath is not so sweet, as well as the onion situation... I've read that tonsil stones not only cause bad breath, but also cause body odors. Perhaps this is what she is dealing with. Just a thought. If it doesn't offend her, perhaps mention my site, and suggest trying Chlorophyll daily - once in the morning and one at night. If it doesn't work to clear up the odors, it may very well be tonsil stones. Most people experience them from time to time, but some people have them chronically. It's worth mentioning it to her. Best of luck my friend. Thank you for reaching out!

  17. OK EVERYONE - I FIGURED IT OUT. This thing happened to me this year. First off, I'm very health conscious and my new mostly raw, 75% green diet caused my body to smell baby fresh (like a newborn) I couldn't stop smelling myself. I loved it!!! THEN I GOT PREGNANT (3rd time)... Well what came along with that was 1.) a change in hormones (major) 2.) a change in eating because of the hormones 3.) a change in digestion (major), partly because of the change in eating and the pregnancy itself etc. SO here's how it went. Hormones changed > Eating changed > Digestion changed = ONION scent coming from the tips of my fingers and Vagi (weird and annoying...borderline depresssing); I even started getting ACNE!!! I was distraught and depressed no doubt. So with SLOW digestion came frequent heartburn & constipation which I believe is/was the cause of the strong onion scent. I tried everything mentioned on this site that was reasonably logical as not all solutions were (like baby powder). I will say that the epsom salt bath work which led me to one of my discoveries (magnesium deficiency and/or constipation) GETTING to the point, here's what is working. I'm not pregnant so my hormones should be GETTING back on track (not all the way there) but who knows, Im 38, they do what they want without my vote. However, I AM back to greening again and have gotten off the HI CARBS (preg hormones do that to ya) AND my focus is heavily on digestion and elimination. (1.) ELIMINATION: 1st thing in the morning ether water w/cucumber & lemon slices or water w/a cpl TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar. Drink your choice of water all day. I am also "now" taking a magnesium capsule in the morning and before bed. At night I've been drinking smooth move tea just to be sure the outgoing is moving through the pipes. (Now understand this, I've always had a stubborn system unless I eat 75% raw food but when I became pregnant with my 3rd baby, everything stopped moving. It always happens when I am pregnant. So if you think Im doing too much to move, trust me, I know my body). (2.) DIGESTION: Im back to raw food (hard for me in Fall/Winter easy in Spring/Summer but I have to do it). My daily smoothies have a conglomorate of things as always (water, kale, spinach, chlorophyll, sometimes dandelion leaf, assorted fruits, 1oz of PEACH KEFIR, & a scoop of amazing greens powder). I drink about 32 oz of this/day. When I was doing this prior to the pregnancy, my body truly smelled as fresh as a newborn. When I returned to greening after the pregancy, it wasnt enough alone; however, when I began to realize that I was still not moving daily, I focused on elimination. Now that Im moving, the onion has ceased. The waste is moving out and the fiber filled diet is doing it's job and scrubbing my insides clean again. Thank GOD!!! I sure hope this helps. Cheap solution too! Only took me 60 WHOLE DAYS of feeling frustratingly funky to figure it out.

    1. Well I can say my experience was short lived as it was caused by the changes pregnancy brought on. When I became pregnant I began experiencing heartburn, constipation and super slow digestion and metabolism, fatigue, etc. My fingertips and vagi smelled funky lik very strong ONION AND GARLIC. I finally attributed the issue to the digestion/constipation. Once I dealt with those, the onion problem disappeared. NOW I'm back to moving 3x per day instead of barely once per day. Thank GOD for that.

HOW: I returned to my clean eating diet to get my system moving, added some magnesium and KEFIR (or yogurt - works better for me than Probiotic capsules). SMELL GONE from vagi and my fingertips. It's the same thing I was doing before I got pregnant (altho I NEVER had the ONION prob before EVER). I am certain the hormone changes were the catalyst that set this off to begin with though.

  22. I've got a case of the onions :( It's been awful. Thank you for this site. I asked my gyno and told her that it's probably an aprocrine problem; she said in all of her 22 years she has never heard of such a thing. She then called a dermatologist because dermatologists know about the glands. The dermatologist has never heard of it. I've been taking all of the supplements for about 5 days now and they haven't kicked in. I was only taking the chlorophyll but since that didn't work I decided to try everything. I've been on the chlorophyll for about a month. Should the supplements have kicked in already?
Secondly, my onion problem kicked in 2 months after I started taking reclipsen birth control. I have stopped taking the birth control to see if that caused it. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

    1. Sorry to hear that the supplements haven't ben working - if the problem started when you started the birth control, that's very likely the issue. And incidentally, not a single gynecologist that I've gone to in the last decade had any idea what I was talking about, and I even went to a a vulvar dermatologist (a dermatologist who's an expert in vaginal skin) and he too had never heard of an onion vaginal odor. It absolutely blows my mind that no doctors have any idea what we're talking about... so you're not alone, honey. If you've stopped the birth control, and the odor has come back, definitely take a look at my "more solutions" page: http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/more-solutions_30.html and take a look at what other girls have tried to solve their problem. I noticed this smell a few months back-ewh....and the taste yuck....I would not want to have oral with me tasting like that. I have never had any problems before....I have always tasted and smelled nice and sweet until this year. I was never on antibiotics long term or BC pills-I've had 5 kids! I hadn't had sex for a good long time and now I am on the verge of a new relationship and omg I had this disgusting problem....So I found your page! I went out today and bought chlorofresh(gel caps), zinc, cranberry supplement and acidophilus supplements. I literally took the chlorofresh in the car in the parking lot. Took all the other supplements with dinner. I can' t believe it! The smell and taste is gone already! I am so relieve.

I have a question about the BV pills....I could not find them....I saw someone posted they got them at Walmart....I will check there.

I will follow up in a week or so and let you know how it is going.

I want to add I have a BS in Nutrition and all of these things are good for you as long as you stick to the dosage. Probiotics I was already on...for digestive properties but I guess the dosage wasn't high enough to help with the vagina problem. I am going to add more kale to my diet...I usually go for romaine but it's an easy fix. I really don't think for me onion or garlic have any effect on the smell....I have always eaten these...and never been affected....even my breastmilk was fine when I eat them. Besides garlic is so good for you.

Well I will let you know.....but for now you are a godsend!

    1. Wonderful! So glad to hear that the supplements are working out for you! And thank you for letting me know your professional opinion! I agree, sticking to the dosage is a very good idea. I found that out the hard way when I took too much Chlorophyll. It game me quite an upset stomach. And yes, you should be able to find the BV pills at Walmart or on-line... but if you've already noticed the smell going away, you probably don't have a bacterial vaginosis problem, and don't need the pills. I'd suggest that only if you notice the smell come back that you try them... otherwise, just stick to the Chlorophyll and other supplements, and you should be set :)

im thinking maybe its a over growth of candida inside me... im going to try some Acidophilus probiotics and Caprylic acid? whats your opinion on that. i cant find those BV pills you mentioned so im thinking this would have to do? :)

  29. Humm..I wouldn't bother with the BV pills if your problem isn't vaginal. Have you tried using Certain Dri on your boobs? I don't know much about it since I only had the vadge-onion issue, but I do know that apocrine glands were the culprits in my situation, and they exist in nipples too. Give Certian Dri a try - rub it on your nipples before bed for at least 5 days - make sure to wear a shirt to bed so it doesn't rub off, and see if there is any difference. If it works, you can probably start using it only every 3 days or so. Take a look at my page more solutions page: http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/more-solutions_30.html, and see if any of those solutions help if the Certian Dri does not. Very best of luck to you, sweetheart!

  31. HI!! im so happy i found this blog. ive been suffering from this for as long as i can remember. from around third grade actually and now i am a senior in high school. for a while i kept this a secret from my parents but when I was in middle school i finally spoke up and asked my mother can i go to the gyno. i was kind of happy because i thought my problem will be solved but infact that was not the case :{ when i got my results the gyno said they didnt find anything and its must be my natural scent or because of puberty blah blah..
some time when in highschool i asked my mom to go to the gyno again because i thought maybe they messed up . but couple days later my mom got a phone call that i didnt have anything. at this point i wish i really had something just so it could be cured.
my smell is a little different then onions but its still on the onion side. it took me awhile to figure out what it smelled like but its more like a musty underarm smell. on the inside of the vg it doesnt smell much but when it comes in contact with air (i think) thats when i can smell a musty smell. i also have a musty taste as well and i also smelled it on my bf breath. and like the other coments it is like an after taste after a few seconds you start tasting it.
i also have discharge that i asked the gyno about as well i told her it can get yellow at times and she says its nothing just regular discharge that changes colors because it comes in contact with air blah blah blah. this odor problem stops me from wearing anything with thin fabrics so i usually just wear pants all the time :(
I also noticed i have very strong odor everywhere. mine is worst then anyone i know and i smell quicker mainly in my underarms (which sometimes deoderant doesnt work) its not a bad smell but after a few ours when i sweat i get a light smell under my arms which isnt the best. also i can get it in my bum area. im staring to believe its something with my sweat.
and without even knowing it was suppost to do somthing im on the paleo diet and have been for a month and i still have horrible odor. im hoping the chlorophyll will work since i have all over odor and finally can i use the bv capsules even if the gyno said i have nothing wrong?

    1. Hello honey. It really is incredible how similar our stories are. I'm so sorry to hear you've had this issue for so long. I also realized that diet did absolutely nothing to change my odor. I've tried the paleo diet, even fasting diets like the Master cleans where you eat absolutely nothing and only drink lemon juice, Cheyenne pepper and maple syrup. They never made any difference. Definitely give the Chlorophyll a try and see what happens first. You can also try the BV pills if you want to... they promote healthy vaginal health in general, so they're perfectly safe to try, but try Chlorophyll first. You can also give Certain Dri a try for your underarms. It works pretty well. If the Chlorophyll doesn't work for your vadge problem though - take another look at my Other Solutions page and see if anything there works out for you. Best of luck, sweetheart!

Not cause I wouldn't like to try it either, lol he gets the taste from my breasts and thinks its old beast milk I'm like our baby is 2 and if that's what I fed her I suck as a mom although I tried my milk at the time and it was sweet no Onions till I stopped lactating, so now I see I am not the only clean healthy woman in the world with this issue. 33. I was reading about the many benefits of using extra virgin coconut oil as a moisturizer for my hair when I discovered it also has anti-bacterial properties. I thought about using it on my lady parts to see if it helped the onion problem and it does. I keep a jar of the Nature's Way solid coconut oil in my bathroom. After my shower everyday, I scoop some of the solid coconut oil out of the jar and let it melt on my fingers and apply it to my inner labia and outer vag area. I have been doing this for a month and it definitely keeps me fresh for 14-16 hours. It doesn't last until the next morning though and I have to shower every single morning even though it doesn't get rid of all the smell. The coconut oil tames it enough to let me get on with my day.

I did wake up this morning with the horrible onion smell and it was so strong that my husband noticed it while I was soaping my lady parts as we were showering together. My period started later that morning. One gynecologist I used to see diagnosed me with BV and he felt it was cyclical according to my menstrual period. He wasn't helpful about the treatment for BV though.

I did not have this onion odor until my lying ex boyfriend insisted on having unprotected sex and infected me with HPV. Luckily the HPV cleared out of my system but the smell started at that time I was sleeping with him which was seven years ago. And, for the record, I have never taken oral birth control. I also have tested HPV free since my first diagnosis. I have never had STDs otherwise.

Finally, in the past year I have noticed that after I eat fish like halibut my pee smells strongly like fish for two days. It's something weird but maybe my body is doing weird things as I age. It must not be able to break down enzymes anymore.

Finally, thank you for this site. It really worries me that I have this problem. I worry that it is a sign of a health condition or cancer even though I know I am in good health. It just doesn't seem right to have such a disgusting odor emanating from a body part I am obsessively trying to keep fresh.

    1. Oh yes! I am a HUGE fan of coconut oil! I put it on my skin, mix it into my coffee, stir it in my oatmeal… anywhere I can put it. I try to take in about 2-3 table spoons a day, and it's just magnificent. You're correct that it has marvelous anti-bacterial AND anti-fungal properties.
Sorry to hear about your ex-boyfriend. What a creep. Keep in mind, though, HPV is very, very common. Almost every friend of mine, myself included, has tested positive at some point, and worked the virus through their systems, so no worries. I, personally, had my onion smell long before I tested positive though, so for me, I don't think it's related to the onions.
I'd definitely try taking Chlorophyll, and seeing what happens. If your body is sensitive to other foods, like eating fish, it's possible your onion issue is related. Give Chlorophyll a try, and best of luck to you!

  34. I just started chlorophyl. i noticed if i take a low dose of doxycycline the smell goes away along with redness in my cheeks (face). Estrogen cream in the vagina helps with a burning but would like to go off the doxycylcine and not have the onion smell (vag) and amonia smell (underwear) and no more burning.

    1. Gosh, Doxycycline is a pretty hard core anti-biotic. If you're taking it on a regular basis, you're probably effecting your vaginal flora pretty intensely. When I take anti-biotics, I always have burning and itching because it causes an overgrowth of yeast. If your doctor prescribed it for infections, I'd be careful about overdoing it. Definitely switch to Chlorophyl if your intention is to treat odor, and not infection. Good luck, hon!

  36. Do any of you have fibrocystic breasts... I read somewhere that, the cystic breast can cause a secretion also, leaving your breasts smelling like onions... home treatments of this can help, so I've heard... no nicotine, no caffeine, using ibuprofen.... I'm going to try the chlorophyl too... hopefully I'll have some luck. It's hard to believe that this symptom is so prominent but Drs have no idea how to help or even understand it...

It's absolutely mind-boggling to me that doctors are so unaware of the causes (or even existence) of this. As of just last week, this site has been hit over 200,000 times. It's only be up about 6 months. This is clearly a problem for thousands of women, but it's clearly a mystery to Western medicine. Hopefully this page (and the information you just gave) will contribute to informing, and helping women where our doctor's have failed us. Thanks again for your info!

Or maybe it's really not coming from the inside of my vagina and i just think it is..i really think it's coming from my vagina but it still leaves the question of it is coming from there, is it those glands you mentioned on the outside of my vagina? idk..but i do hope i find something that helps..doctors think im crazy too lol

  39. I am in my first year of marriage and we have been unable to fully enjoy each other in an intimate way because of this gross, delayed after taste; he is unable to go near my breasts or perform oral on me because of the strange taste (no smell though). We just had a huge, tearful discussion a few days ago because of this giant limitation on our love life, my feelings that I am a freak of nature, and the realization that we do not initiate sex as much because of it and we are newlyweds darn it, we are SUPPOSED to make love like rabbits!! I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow morning so will hopefully be able to rule out any possible infections or the like and then I will definitely begin trying the solutions one by one. I am definitely a supporter of a more plant-based, whole foods diet (which I have yet to implement) and so the supplements and dietary changes caught my attention. I will update should something work or not work. Thank you so much for giving me hope! I have been so discouraged but finally feel like this is something my husband and I can figure out :) thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  40. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned povidone iodine soap. It really works right away. You might expect a little irritation at first but it goes away, the best part is that the effect builds up and you can go longer without getting the smell. It works because it kills the bacteria that produces the smell. Try it out, it's by far the cheapest most effective way to get rid of the onions!!!

    1. From what I've researched for over a decade, it seems like there are many causes. It could be anything from what you eat, an illness, a reaction to how your body breaks down certain nutrients, even tonsil stones. I have a whole list of causes on this page: http://caseoftheonions.blogspot.com/p/the-causes.html?m=1
but honestly, there are probably many more causes. It's why it must be so tricky to treat. Hopefully you'll find some info that helps you on this site, sweetheart :)

  42. OMG YOUR SITE SAVED MY LIFE. I've suffered with this problem when I was younger and then in recent years. I am 23 years old and now a little more aware of my body. I get baths 2-3 times a day due to this problem, been to my doctor time and time again and they keep telling me that I am crazy because when I'd go there they dont know what I'm talking about.

In the past few months I started to date a new guy, and I'd notice every-time he got me aroused I would be smelling like onions. My chest area, my vagina BUT NOT my armpits. It was the most puzzling thing ever!

Even worst when I came home every day I would take my clothes off and my whole bedroom and then the bathroom before I hopped in the shower would smell of onions like a grown man who just did some serious cardio. My mom would always ask if I put on deodorant. I was toooooooo embarrassed to tell her that it wasn't my armpits, but in fact my vagina area.

My chest would get so smelly some days that I would have to go and put a roll on crystal deodorant in that area and powder to avoid being embarrassed during the day by the smell that would creep up on me.

Christmas time I wanted to buy myself these fabulous high waisted jeans and I normally don't try on clothes; I just buy. This day I decided I would try them on a little small town boutique. I tried them on and they fit, I went to look through the remainder of the store looking for more items and I noticed the manager and the friend talking and saying that the dressing room smelled and the girl that just used it smelled horrible. I was mortified. I'm glad they fit because I couldn't imagine leaving them there and having them say that they can't even sell the jeans now because my "smell" was on it.

I've spent loads of money on deodorant sprays and douches and vaginal depositories, and medication trying to find a cure, because overall I am a very hygienic person.

I've been in the doctors office crying and crying because I kept getting the same answers that it was just my natural smell and I should get used to it. And the doctors keep asking me if I'm the only one that smells it because if so, then I'm being dillusional.

After getting really self consious of it, I set out determined to scour the internet to read up on this body mystery. I finallllllyyyyy came across your website.

I tried the acidophillus as prescribed by the pharmacist here, and I was eating them like candy. NO RESULTS.

This Thursday after feeling really depressed over this situation (April 17th,2014) I went to a local health store, And requested as your website suggested the Chlorophyl liquid and also oil or oregeno. I paid a total of $48 for the two of the items.

I drank the Chlorophyll, two oil of Oregeno pills, and 2 Acidophillus pills each day since and Friday I didn't notice much of a smell.

Today is Saturday April 18th and I am proud, excited, head over the hills excited to say that it works. NO SMEELLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

I'm glad that I found this site, and even happier that other people have this problem (Thats sounds bad) but I mean it as in. I"M NOT GOING CRAZY, like the doctor claims that I am.

    2. Ladies, I am a guy and I jut want to tell you all something that may put your minds at ease if only a little bit. And that is I actually find that so called dreaded onion/sweaty smell to be VERY sexy and erotic. It IS a major turn on for me anyway!

After all, it is a natural scent, just like it is a natural scent if I shower and not use deodorant, and after a while, I would get that all too familiar very natural scent from my underarms.

It has been my experience that only 1 in 5 women I have encountered HAD that onion scent, unfortunately!! I wish more did. My last girlfriend HAD it and I LOVED it. So sexy and a real turn on. I MISS it as my latest GF does not have it unfortunately. :(

So don't worry so much, it's NOT so bad, and some of us guys ADORE you and how you smell NATURALLY. I'd rather smell THAT, than the most expensive fragrance you could apply ANY day of the week. I really miss it.

If anyone would like to get a guys point of view or discuss this further I'd love to hear from you!

    3. That's incredibly sweet for you to say, my friend. If only more guys were as open minded as you! Unfortunately, I receive emails all the time from girl's who's boyfriends (and even husbands) have shunned them, and even dumped them because they developed this condition. My own relationships suffered before I found a treatment. It's nice to know that there are some guys who have a different opinion on the subject - but sadly, for too many girls, there aren't enough guys like you out there. But thanks again for your very kind words. They are appreciated!

    1. Goodness, hon. If you've had an infection, and that's when the odor started, it's possible that the infection hasn't cleared. I would see your doctor again to make sure. And definitely no more douching. Douching actually causes infections by squirting unwanted bacteria further up where it doesn't belong. If you go to your doctor, and you're infection free, take a look at my solutions pages on this site, and give some of my anti-onion odor techniques a try. Best of luck to you, honey!

  44. Thank you so much LMO for this great blog. I've been looking for solutions for the horrible onion boobs tasting for years and doctors (skin doctors, gynecologists,...) none ever heard about it so could not help. I just went to the shops and started the "cure" a minute ago. When reading the causes, let me make a suggetion: if no medical institution is having a proper study about it, we should think about a way to start the study and push it further, asking everyone concerned to define the different "profiles" of the patients. What i can say is that on my end, i can cross out: anxiety, the pill, smoking, coffeine, alcohol. I believe i've had the smell symptoms pretty early as a child so most probably looking at the incidence of antibiotics or candida ; will have all this tested. Thank you so much as i know it's not easy to talk about it.

  45. Thank you so much for making this blog. Right now I'm ordering Chloroxygen pills, Chlorofresh liquid and zinc. To start out I plan on taking one chlorophyll pill 50mg and one zinc pill 25mg at night for a week. If no change I might start taking it in the morning too or change to liquid. I've been looking for a solution for so long. I've tried probiotic supplements, yogurt, and RePhresh gel. Coconut oil and boric acid suppositories help a little but not for long and its a bit messy. Finally I've found something that looks easy and promising. I really believe this could be the end of the onions. I'll come back with an update in a month or less if it works sooner! Oh and I'm also buying Certain Dri but for under my breasts. Hopefully that'll help with summer boob sweat lol. I was wondering though how you would apply it if you have an onion taste on your breasts. I noticed an onion taste around my nipples when I was younger but not now. I figured it was because of my armpits. Anyway thanks for all the great info!

    1. Hello hon! Sorry for the delayed response. And yes - you may have discovered by now that you have to take the chlorophyll at least twice a day, every day for it to work. If I skip a day, I'm right back to the onions... It's even worse if I skip a few days. I find, though, that if I take it religiously, night and morning for at least a week, I can tend to skip a morning or night dose, and not have any problems. It seems to build up in the system. Both the smell and the taste is treated in my case, by taking in the morning and at night. Although - I still notice a taste if I have sex in the morning. It's there sometimes and not other times. I think it's related to my cycle. Who can say? All I know is taking Chlorophyll twice, or even 3 times a day has worked astoundingly well for me... But if you do it consistently, and don't notice a difference, make sure to check my "More Solutions" page! Best of luck, babe!

  53. thank you! I'll try it out, although I'm a little sceptical about any cure since i've been struggling with it for almost 4 years. but tomorrow i'll hit the pharamacy and ask for LOADS of clorophyll.

And don't get discouraged if it doesn't seem to work straight away - give it a few days of taking it. And if it still doesn't seem to work after about a week, include the other supplements on my list, especially the folic acid - and it it STILL doesn't work, take a look at my More Solutions page, and just keep trying. There are treatments for this, love - it's just a matter of finding the right one. Thank you for your post, and again, best of luck!

  56. I can't describe to you how grateful I am. I no longer feel alone!
I have had this problem for around 5 months now and I think it might have begun after I got a UTI and consequently took antibiotics.
I am now trying zinc and chlorella. First day today, fingers crossed!
You have helped so many people. Thank you xxx

    1. Best of luck to you, lady! Yes, antibiotics can throw off your flora for sure. In that case, it's most probably related to a bacterial issue. If neither the Chlorophyll or the zinc help, I'd try VH Essentials Homeopathic BV capsules, or Rephresh - 2 products that can help you get your flora balanced back to normal. Also try baking soda baths nightly for a little while: 2-4 tablespoons of baking soda in a bath, and soak for 20 minutes each night. Thank you for your post! :)

  57. I'm 21 and have had hyperhydrosis my whole life. It got so bad, that I had to have surgery to stop the pooling puddles of water from my hands and arms. But after the surgery the smell started. I smelled like I was rotting from the inside. My dad once said I smelled like road kill. I never had any idea what to do, the surgery had stopped my sweating from being abnormal, but when I did sweat I smelled like I was dying. It got so bad my bf has really stopped being close with me at all. We don't kiss, or have oral sex. Other factors I can think of is that am on a BC shot, I have random food problems where I throw up after eating for no reason...I also am allergic to penicillin so I've been dosed with one specific antibiotic my whole life, and now it doesn't work at all. I have also had pain and swelling under my arm pits near my boobs. The doctor gives me pills, I take them, nothing happens. One doctor told me it was connected to a staff infection inside my nose, gave me pills, nothing happened, I still have a nose infection I still have painful armpits I still smell like road kill. Then yesterday, I'm doing a little check up down there, and my hands smells like onions....yes now we get to this. I thought "just made pot roast with onions" and didn't think twice. Three days later all I can smell is onions. Its all over me. And my vage REAKS. I can't scrub it away. I want to die.

    1. Hi there, baby girl. I totally understand your situation. If you need your mum's help to either drive you to a vitamin supplement store, or to purchase Chlorophyll for you (or both), you don't have to say you're wanting to try it because of the odor - you can say you want to try it for any number of wonderful benefits that Chlorophyll provides. If you're sporty, you can say you've heard it helps with healing, prevents infections, provides needed iron and energy that could help you in your sports. If you're not sporty, you can simply say a friend told you - I consider us friends ;) - that Chlorophyll helps her with a number of health issues like anemia and yeast infections. There are a number of things you can say (that are all true) about why you would want to give chlorophyll a try... And luckily, chlorophyll is very inexpensive, so it shouldn't be too hard to convince your mum to let you try it ;)
      Best of luck, sweetheart!

I was so tired of being embarrassing and self-conscious. I have tried every remedy under the sun and nothing has worked UNTIL I discovered your blog. I had never heard of chlorophyll to be a solution but the minute I read that you highly recommended it, I went out and bought it! IT WORKED IN ONE NIGHT!!!! Sometimes I have to adjust my dosage at different times of the month - I'll take the chlorophyll 3 times a day instead of two when I know I'm getting closer to my period, for example. I'll also take baking soda baths, and that helps as well. There are lots of other solutions out there (listed on this site), so no worries from here on. Thanks again for letting me know I've helped!

    1. Hello honey - so strange, I thought I had replied to your post. I'm so sorry it appears it didn't work. Hon, it sounds like you may have a condition that you need to see a doctor for. If you're taking chlorophyll and probiotics, and you're having this reaction, it makes me thing you may have a condition called Candida. It's an overgrowth of yeast in the body. When you have candida, and take probiotics, it can make the overgrown yeast fight for it's life, and cause more health problems. I obviously can't know this for sure, but I don't think your condition is caused by external bacteria if you're also tasting it. In regards to smoking and tonsil stones: smoking, overall, hinders your immune system, leaving you vulnerable to a number if illnesses, and in many, smoking causes body odor. I'm not exactly sure how Tonsil stones cause body odor, in a biological sense. There is a lot of information about body odor and tonsil stones online, however. I would really take a trip to a doctor, sweetheart, if you haven't already, and if you don't have a doctor that listens to you, I'd highly suggest finding a holistic practitioner. So sorry you're having this trouble, honey.

  68. I've had this problem on and off forever. I just started up with the onion again stench recently (after my cycle ended). I think it might have something to do with stress hormones, at least for me, because I was laid off at the end of the year and have been looking for jobs for the past month and a half. This week, and especially today, I am basically sweating buckets of French Onion Soup from all glands. I am a gross, sweaty, stressy girl.

I don't know of anyone has commented on this: I learned recently that there is some kind of a laser treatment that dermatologists can do under the pits that will knock out the sweat glands there. What I've learned so far is the treatment is pretty spendy and runs from $3k and up. You go in for a few treatments and then at least your under arm sweat will be taken care of.

Here's a review I found on RealSelf from people who have had the procedure done:

    http://www.realself.com/miradry

It is outrageously spendy for my current situation, but I thought I would post it for the rest of you ladies. Currently, Insurance doesn't contribute or cover this at all, but who knows? In the future they might. I heard that some insurances do cover botox injections for hyper-hydrosis.

Of course, this doesn't help the vag issue, but when I get onion-y down there I also do elsewhere, and I get super sweaty too. Fun. So, I hope this info helps someone.

Thanks again for this site. You are so awesome to put it up. : )

    1. Thank you, lady! And I'm very sorry to hear about your job situation. Yes, I notice that when my anxiety is high, I'll have the onions creep in, even when I'm taking Chlorophyll. If I know I'm going to have a stressful week at work, I'll take Chlorophyll 3 times a day, instead of 2. And I would definitely give a good quality Chlorophyll supplement a try before going toward a laser route. I personally had a procedure similar to this for a different condition, just to find out years later that I only needed to add vitamin D to my diet. It was unbelievable. Laser treatments can work - but I'd use them only as a last option. So, suffice it to say, give any of the supplements or tips on this site a try - they're all inexpensive, and they may work like a charm. Very best of luck to you, sweetheart!

  69. I just want to say you are such a blessing for creating this blog. I started having the onion odor in my vag area in the summer of 2013. It came out of no where. It kind of started when I helped my dad now grass for the entire summer. The smell of sweat totally changed and I didn't know what was going on with my dad. I noticed she. I ate onions it became stronger and I smelled it in my urine. It was horrible, embarrassing, and made me self conscious. Not to mention my boyfriend could smell it however he said it didn't bother him and that I was over reacting. Excuse me for wanting to be fresh in that area. I think it should smell like roses and taste sweet not bitter with an onion after taste. I researched and researched until I came across your blog. To know I'm not the only one made me feel a lot better but I still wanted the smell gone. I purchased Chlorofresh capsules before realizing you had a specific list. I kind of was upset that I didn't purchase the chloroxygen capsules because of the reviews I read about chlorofresh not working: however, I decided to take them anyway since I bought them. It's day 7 and I have no smell but I do have green bowel movements which is awkward but I will take that over smelling like onions. Thank you so much. I will give updates if anything changes.

If Chlorofresh capsules are working, by all means, keep taking them! I personally take Chloroxegen, but that doesn't mean Chlorofresh isn't a good brand. I've used their liquid Chlorophyll in the past. It's worked for lots of girls, so no worries. 74. I've suffered since the age of 12, and I am now in my forties. The chlorophyll has not worked for me, but I have found some relief in the vaginal area from taking the Fortify for Women probiotics and using the Refresh suppositories. Failing to take the tablet for two days resultsin the odor returning.

In regards to my underarm onion odor, NOTHING HAS WORKED. This is sooooo embarrassing! People often make rude comments, wrinkle their noses, and spray air freshners/perfumes. I have had underarm Botox treatment, tried Certain Dri (and all of the new commercial Napalm level deodorants), vinegars, baking soda, essential oils, coconut oil, bleach, Hibiclens, Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, sea salt, table salt, lemons, limes, milk of magnesia, clay, witch hazel, vodka, 91% isopropyl alcohol, peroxide, hand sanitizer, Castille soap, regular soap, and no soap. Nothing has worked! Did I mention nothing has worked? At this point, I am thinking about posing as a "hippie" in order to have an acceptable social alibi for my onion fragranced underarms!

For me it is exteremly disheartening to know other people presume that I lack good hygiene. This couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, I bathe multiple times daily, and touch up my armpits throughout the day. Unfortunately, after showering and towel drying, my underarms still smell of onions. As a bonus, my towel also wreaks of onion. Mind you, I only use a towel once before laundering it.

Oh yes, laundry is another issue. I frequently trash clothing because I cannot remove the horrific odor. A dry cleaner once told me I should not wear my suits several times before bringing them in for dry cleaning them. I smiled and advised him that I dry clean after each use. He turned as red as an apple and said "oh my". His sincere suggestion was appreciated.

Thank you for allowing me to share; this has been cathartic and somewhat therapeutic. Unfortunately, this is not an issue I discuss with others face-to-face due to embarrassment on my part and an inability to relate by non-onion odor suffers (OOS). I THANK EVERYONE IN THIS FORUM FOR SHARING.

Has anyone realized success with anything outside of the few items I have already tried (simultaneously sarcastic and serious). I look forward to receiving your suggestions. PLEASE HELP

  75. Hiii I don't seem quite as bad a case as some sufferers here (poor gals), but I am a little worried as this is not the first time I've noticed this smell from down there.. I can't say exactly how many times I've had it, but noticed it more over the past 3 years. I get it occasionally, sporadically, it seems to come and pay a visit every so often for a few days. This might not see so bad to some of you long time sufferers but for me, it is incredibly embarrassing, and makes me feel really dirty, (even though like many of you, I wash very regularly). Luckily for me I think I've managed to get it to go away for the night.

Here goes the graphic details. So, I am 21, on birth control, I have "the rod" implant in my arm. I have had it for about three years now (need to change it in a couple of months!). I do not know if this smell correlates to my periods because when I started birth control my periods stopped completely. It could? be related? but I seriously have no idea. I do not get boob, armpit or any other crease onion plague. I am overweight, bmi says morbidly so. I noticed a few others with this problem speaking out about being overweight - this could be something to consider.

I have noticed in the past that I've experienced a case of the onions after I've been preparing onions, (i always wash my hands with soap immediately after chopping onions anyway) but uhhh... Well to be blunt after masturbating, I noticed the smell. I DID WASH MY HANDS THOUGH > m>

I am lucky enough to have an understanding partner who is open to talking about it and is not judgemental, but equally he offers no solace because he is a bloke and does not have a vagina.

My most recent breakout was this evening, I noticed it again, after masturbating, which worried me because I bathed just hours earlier, however I immediately went and had a wash (i used Original Source lime shower gel) and it SEEMS to have done the trick. Thank God. I don't know if the limes helped, or if it was just in need of another wash(?)

I cannot say as to whether this is to do with my sweat glands, or with my hormones, my weight or any of the plethora of causes you have here, but I just hope it never comes back, and I hope we all one day find a common reason for it, a prevention and maybe even a cure. good luck xxx

    1. Aw honey. I know your situation all too well. Like you, I was my most oniony after masturbation. It's because your apocrine glands release a fatty secretion when you're aroused that bacteria in that area love to chow down on. And the smell isn't the bacteria itself, but its waste once it's had it's lunch (talk about graphic details - my apologies). But the Chlorophyll cleared that right up for me. Maybe it will work for you too! If it happens again, give it a try!

  76. I'm am extremely happy that I've found this site! I've been having this problem for years. I started putting deodorant in the corner of my thighs or sometimes on the pubic hairs also. My doctor told me that its not healthy for my vagina, but i didn't care because It was taking care of my problem. It worked for the most part. It began to become a problem when it came down to oral sex. I am now trying to stop using deodorant and I'm looking for a different alternative. The only problem is since I've stopped (5 days ago), the onion smell is worse than I remember! Do you think chlorophyll will work for me?

    1. Absolutely give it a try! before I discovered Chlorophyll, I used an intense deodorant called Certain Dri. It was the only thing that worked, and like you, I didn't care about the consequences. I just wanted to live a normal life. Eventually, though, even that stopped helping... and like you said, deodorant on your vadge makes for some icky tasting romantic encounters for your guy. So Yes! Give it a try. Try Chlorophresh Liquid twice a day, or ChlorOxegen 50mg pills twice a day (I prefer the pills). Once in the morning and once at night. You should know whether or not it's working by the 3rd or 4th day of using it. Also, there is a deodorant suggested by one of my users called Lavilin that is all natural - possibly a better alternative than standard deodorants, just in case you need a backup. Best of luck, honey!

    1. Yes! For some ladies, that's all it takes. I actually have that listed on my More Solutions page. Unfortunately, that solution didn't work for me when I tried, but I've posted it as a solution because it clearly does work for some girls. Thank you for sharing!

  80. I'm so glad I found this blog! I'm a very active 16 year old girl. I've always had a very strong body odor. I started my menstrual when I was 10 it's been hell since then. I naturally take 2 showers a day. If I have dance practice then 3. But no matter what I do I can't get rid of the onion smell. And it gets worse as I'm working out. It's so embarrassing during Poms practice I stay off to the corner so no one can smell me. It was getting to the point where I was thinking about quitting. I also recently became sexually active (unfortunately). I only had 1 partner ever but I don't know how to go about telling my mom about the issue. The smell was before I started having sex but I believe it's getting stronger. I pack extra underwear and vaginal wipes everywhere I go and I throw down with baby powder nothing is working and I don't know what to do.

    1. Aww, hon. So sorry to hear this. I was exactly the same way. Definitely give Chlorophyll a try - twice a day, and use a deodorant like Certain Dri or Lavilin (I prefer Lavilin's underarm cream) if the odor isn't completely controlled by the Chlorophyll. Use it on your inner thighs, and just in the opening of your vagina where your apocrine glads are most concentrated. Just make sure not to put any actually inside your vagina. They both last 3 days - you put them on at night, and don't have to think about it. If you're still having trouble, please take a look at my "More Solutions" page, and see if any of those solutions work for you! Best of luck, honey!

  83. 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with water on a 50/50 ratio put into syringe (no needle) insert into onion vadge ... Instant relief. Also use the 3% hydrogen peroxide as intimate wash stuff. Obtain the 3% hydrogen peroxide from your chemist works a treat.

    1. Interesting! Your onion issue is most likely related to either BV or yeast, as hydrogen peroxide treats both of those conditions. I'll add that to my list of other solutions!
      Thank you!

  84. This is very frustrating to the point my husband does not like to suck my nipple, and even if he is down there... he has to do it with a mint dentyne ice. I wash 2 to 3 times with vagisil PH balance soap. Made all the test at the Gyn, everything came out good. I breastfeed my baby and his mouth smells like onioooonnnss!!!

Definitely will try this. Let you know if it works for me. But I will go to a doctor to see if he can make some test for hormone imbalance. Also, to check vitamin deficiency.

    1. That's a good idea, hon. Always a good idea to see if anything is obviously out of wack and easily treatable with a doctor. If everything comes up negative, though, just give some of these solutions a try :)

  85. Hi Little Onion.

I have to tell you this. I owned a body piercing shop for a number of yrs. When women would get their hood pierced and come back for a recheck, esp. in the summer when it was clammy out - the onion stank was pretty obvious in a number of them.

I notice onion twat when I work out and I am a vegan now so it is not a meat eating issue.

I do find the comments about not crapping to be a contributor to onion funkitis. Sometimes the breath stank of the person going down on the jay takes on a creole shrimp boil stank after licking around.

Chlorophyl is what we give our female show dogs to stave off the scent when in heat - that drives the male dogs wild. It has some effectiveness in cancelling out the calling card. For some reason, male dogs love the stank of a female dog in heat. We have one breed of dog who literally reeks when in season so hromones do affect scenting.

    Also charcoal (activated) also helps.

Best fishes - I mean, wishes!

  86. I can't believe I found your site after so many years googling this issue! I have a question though, I'm ready to buy the chlorophyl but everywhere I read it says it causes diarrhea :s Did this supplement make a change in your bowel movements? Maybe not made you sick but did it increase the frequency or something? I'm worried because I have a delicate stomach and if it affected you at least a bit it might send me to bed :(

    1. Hi hon. Sorry to hear that. Generally the onion odor condition isn't caused by sex, but it is caused by bacterial vaginosis, which can be caused by sex. You said you noticed a "strange" odor, but didn't mention it was oniony. Is it oniony, or more fishy or yeasty? Do you have any itchiness or burning? Any discharge? If so, you may want to take a trip to the doctor to find out exactly what's going on. If you've never experienced this odor before, and it appeared right after sex - it's doubtful that it's just a hormonal condition or caused by something you ate. If you go to the doctor and tests come back negative, and the odor persists, take a look at my solutions page and see if anything works for you. Best of luck, sweetheart!

  88. Hi I am 22 and just noticed that I have only suffered with this problem for 4 days now.. Please help me. I'm a mother of two. When I was pregnant with my first my breast would smell this way but only when id eat onions... I've noticed lots of my seasonings contain onion salt and powder.. I also work at subway and we have to cut onions....could this be a factor as to why I smell that down there???... I was beginning to get concerned! ...thanks for any help,!

    1. Lots of girls tell me that cutting onions causes this odor. It's really confusing. No idea why. Apparently, if you cut onions with gloves, you won't get the problem, but some girls just assume it's their contact with onions that's causing the problem. To know if onions are the cause, try wearing gloves and cut onions out of your diet for 2 weeks to see if you still have the issue. If not, unfortunately, you'll just have to be mindful of onion's effect on you, and make sure to wear gloves when you handle them. If the odor is still there, despite cutting them from your diet and wearing gloves, take a look at my solutions page, and see if any of those solutions work for you. Good luck, honey!

  89. I have been suffering from this affliction for 8 years now and have recently started taking multivitamins. The odour is completely gone. It is unbelievable. Hopefully it was all merely due to a lack of certain vitamins in my diet. I have had numerous instances of momentary hope in the past when taking certain supplements such as chlorophyll and aloe vera, but the odour will always return. Even though this multivitamin fix may just be another disappointment, what I have learned through all this is to never give up. For those wondering, the brand of multivitamins I am taking is Cenovis, which I purchased from Woolworths. However, I assume any other brand will be just as effective.

    1. Does your multi vitamin contain zinc and/or folic acid? Folks with deficiencies in either (or both) of these vitamins will have issues with body odor. Taking those vitamins will help. There are so many causes to this condition, it's a bit baffling. Hopefully, you've got your condition contained, but if the odor comes back, give Chlorophyll a try, and also take a look at my "More Solutions" page. Glad to hear your issue is (at least for now) under control!

  90. My girlfriend has this and now the scent of onions kind of makes me sick. How should I tell her she has this without hurting her self esteem.

    1. Sorry for the late reply! I want to first, commend you for being so thoughtful about this situation. You're lady is lucky to have a boyfriend that is concerned about her feelings regarding this issue. It's difficult to know exactly how she would react to being told her scent effects you. To tell you the truth, no matter what, it will make her sad (perhaps embarrassed) to know it effects you, no matter what, so expect that it will be a tricky situation. She probably feels helpless because it’s not something she knows how to control. Perhaps mention that you’ve heard Chlorophyll has helped a friend with the same issue (I consider us friends ;) ). Remind her that it’s common, and she has nothing to be embarrassed about. You can say you heard it really effected your friend’s life, and when she tried taking chlorophyl twice a day (once in the morning and once at night) it helped so much. Keep in mind, if she’s having this issue during sex, she is also probably experiencing it when she works out, when she’s out dancing with friends… it really effects girls in many situations, so she’d be happy to hear about it. Tell her to give it a try if it concerns her - rather than focusing on how it effects you (which is equally very important), but in terms of preserving her self esteem, it would be sweet to keep the focus on how it, no doubt, effects her, and you just want to help. I hope this advice is helpful to you, hon. best of luck!

    2. I have a guy friend who smells like onions a lot, not exactly the same thing as a woman's vagina, but you can bring up the smell without necessarily implicating her. If you can smell it, she might be able to as well. If that doesn't seem to do the trick, I'd just break it to her that her vagina seems different than usual, and ask her if she's noticed any changes. Depending on her answer you might just have to be blunt and let her know she needs a different routine, or you guys will end up discussing some possibilities. It really is awesome though that you're trying to be tactful. Just keep doing that!

  91. This site is awesome! I don't regularly suffer from onion-vag, but I've come down with it every now and then. Almost always bacterial for me, and some low sugar greek yogurt does the trick after a few days. Primrose oil and baby powder to keep the area dry helps with the acidity and irritation associated with it 'til it's gone.

    Thanks again!

  92. 1) Onion smell for 2 years
    2) next came the dr. visit for probable yeast infection due to non stop itching mainly at nite
    3) Negative on infection but prescribed Terconazole anyway
    4) My sister told me about being diagnosed with Vulvar Lichen Sclerosis and the terrible itching that made her go to the Dr. She also tested negative for yeast infection
    5) Found out my cousin diagnosed as well
    6) VLS is hereditary
    7) We all had the onion smell prior to being diagnosed
    8) Prescribed Clobetasol Propionate which works but can only be used for 7 days at a time
    9) Now the onion smell has started in underarm area too
    10) Gyno Dr. didn't really know too much about VLS. Told me to see a Dermatologist
    11) Sister has told me she has reversed the VLS by using Dr. Bronner's Almond Castille soap. Swears by it.
    12) Will try your suggestions/solutions next
    Thank you.

  93. I noticed some comments contained the use of baby powder. Dr. Weil's site provides this info:
The question of ovarian cancer risk among women who use talcum powder has not been settled. Some studies have shown a small increased risk and other investigations have shown none. However, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, a part of the World Health Organization, classifies the use of talc-based powders on the genital region as "possibly carcinogenic to humans." Although the additional risk, if any, of ovarian cancer would be very small, the American Cancer Society suggests that women may want to avoid or limit the use of products containing talc.
    Just sharing.
